Peoria has a gem in the Prairie Center of the Arts down on Washington Street. Not only does it house an art gallery but also a letterpress studio. I'm part of a small print club that collaborates on yearly projects, but the center also teaches a wide variety of really cool classes, so if you made that crazy resolution to learn a new skill, this may be the place to go. Robert Rowe, a professor friend of mine and overall print guru, gave a screenprinting demonstration for us, and I will definitely be trying it in the future! I've done many a letterpress project, everything from Christmas cards to some personal Daft Punk posters, and there is nothing like digging in and getting your hands dirty and getting away from a screen, mixing some ink and feeling the impressions on the crisp paper.
